The main character of the film is Marguerite Gautier - a luxurious Parisian courtesan, known for appearing on opera performances with a bouquet of white or red camellias. After the death of a woman, her estate is auctioned. The writer Alexander Dumas buys a book, but a few days later a man comes to see Mr. Armand Duval, for whom the purchase of a writer is an extremely valuable souvenir. It turns out that Duval was Marguerite lover, but their relationship ended in tragedy. An unusual guest decides to tell the writer the dramatic story of his love.
